THE TRIBE
Reflections
I couldn't believe it! Uncle Seymour was gone! The family will be in disarray now. He was the glue that held us together after Papa passed ten years ago. Nadia was hell-bent on getting me to cheer up and enjoy the one week I had left in Honduras. She was not letting up at all.
"Miko! Come' on cheer up sis. I'm here for you, I promise, but I do know Uncle Seymour would want you to live in the moment and enjoy your life in the present. Right?"
"Yeah, I guess you're right. It's just I never expected to be in this place at this moment, ya know." Nadia grabbed my hand and placed it in hers. "I understand, truly, I do. I felt the same way when my Aunt Trudy passed away." I had a flashback of Trudy and Nadia; they were inseparable. Trudy didn't have any kids, and well Nadia was her daughter and niece. Trudy lost her battle with cancer a few years back. I knew Nadia could sympathize with me; I just felt it was all too overwhelming. We decided to stay in and watch movies till we fell asleep.
The morning came, and Room Service was already at the door with breakfast. Nadia took the liberty of ordering for us. She had the whole day planned. We were going hiking and meditating in nature today. I looked forward to it. The sun shined bright, and the air was crisp with clarity of midst. It was seemingly strange for a summer day, but I was ok with it because I felt the presence of Uncle Seymour was with us.
We sat in the middle of the terrain. Beautiful colorful flowers that I had never before seen adorned it. The sounds of the birds and the nearby waterfall made the experience all the more relaxing. Nadia did know how to show me a good time, especially in a time like this. After our long day out in the wild, I took some time to reflect at the Village spa. Nadia finally snuck away for a minute and came back with a new friend.
"Miko! Hey, I want you to meet our new friend, Miguel." Who was she fooling? She knew she had taken this pretty boy on all for herself. He was not my type. I mean, I like them groomed nicely and handsome but not too beautiful. My man has to be manly fo sho. Miguel is such a pretty boy. I figure I'd play along with Nadia though considering all she's doing for me. "Hi. Miguel, how are you, sweetie?"
"I'm good. It's a pleasure to meet you. Nadia tells me y'all need some fun to get into tonight." I don't know what Nadia told Miguel, but he was excited about sharing the night with us. "It depends on what Nadia has shared with you, Miguel. Honestly, I need an event that will take me out of this world."
"Cool, then I have the perfect thing in mind for you guys. There's a hip-hop poetry rave tonight in the hills. We always bring the locals there. Your friend Nadia has already checked me out, and the staff here knows me. I used to work the bar in the lounge downstairs for over three years."
I was pretty sure Nadia had done all her research on Miguel and completed her spy kit before he even had a clue she ran a background check on him. I was convinced Miguel just wanted to offer us good clean fun, so I relaxed and let them show me to a good time. We met up with his friends and kicked it all night. It was unforgettably amazing. The music and the food was like that of a cruise line literally, unlimited, and never-ending. There was a moment when I stole away to the balcony to look up at the stars and the moon. I sat with my thoughts and reflected on how I got to this moment. I truly enjoyed my journey up until this point. I wondered if it was still as purposeful as when it first began? Horus had come, then Claude, Kwesi, and Layla had made their entrance and left an unforgettable impression. Yet I still felt something was missing and not considered in all this. Or was it someone?
Love should have no compromises period. As much as I've always wanted to be the one, I realize that my life is totally on a different kind of path. I am to many as many are to me. This path requires me to focus, grow, learn, and give to humanity. I've been so focused on THE TRIBE that I lost sight of the passion; behind the search for the village. Even the ugliest days are like sunrises and sunsets. I can never forget my real purpose and mission. At that moment, I thought about my most recent companion Jackson Carter. I was trying not to get sentimental on this trip. Usually, when I think of Jackson, that's what happens.
"Miko!!" I was suddenly snatched back into reality. Nadia stood there with a drink in hand. "You good sis? Need another drink? You look like you deep in thought, and this is a fun night, remember?"
"Yes, Nadia, I know I was just reflecting on this escapade of mine and wondering If I'm making progress, or should I call it quits?" Nadia looked astounded. "Now the Miko that I know isn't a quitter, and she would never give up on her quest. She might reinvent it but never drop the ball, you know. Come on, Miko. It's just a lot going on right now. Don't put too much thought into it."
She was right. I did tend to over-analyze things too much at times. I didn't want to do that now, so I took a deep breath, inhaled then exhaled. As soon as I finished, Nadia handed me the drink, and back to the party, I went. Of course, there's still much more to think about, but not now. It'll have to wait. At this moment I'm going to enjoy Nadia, Miguel, and his friends.
Finally, my trip was ending, and I could no longer deny the reality that had hit me while in Honduras. I needed to sort through my feelings once more about Jackson. Was he going to be apart of the tribe or not? Was he ever even a factor in all this? I've realized I can no longer run from those things which I need to face. So I will deal with this matter head-on. As I sat on the plane, I knew what lay before me, could only be pieces to the puzzle of my life. The journey continues....
