The Perfect Encounter

Image
The skies were gray, and the air was crisp. The leaves had begun to fall and rustle in the wind. Many serenaded my feet as I walked along the cobblestone. I watched as they danced along the path with me. As I trotted along, the padded soles of my new leather boots gave me a soothing comfort. I could barely feel the crunch of the leaves beneath my feet. I was in a hurry to get my favorite cup of pumpkin spice cider before it’s seasonal finale.   I made my way to the counter and noticed a tall dark-skinned man sitting off in the corner. He wore a black wool flat cap and a matching pea coat. Cafe Le Monde has always been the happening cafĂ©, but today it was my treasure. I could not believe my eyes. I grabbed my cider and made my way to a table close to the gentleman. I did not want to be conspicuous, so I tucked away at a nearby adjacent table facing the window. I could still hear him and see him quite clearly. I was dying to speak at this point. My heart was racing ...

Bruja

Jadis had often thought of herself as a quirky kid. She had no idea of her powers and destiny, until one autumn day not long ago. It was all hollow’s eve when she decided to take a walk near an old cemetery. Her friends would often dare each other to do it. Jadis was never afraid to, she just wanted the moment to be sacred. Eventually, she decided to go alone. The howling of wolves could be heard off in the distance, but that didn't deter her. She skipped along the brick trail at the entrance of Mundy Mill's Cemetery. She stopped at a tombstone where a black cat laid. The tombstone read: Gwydion Murray 1923-2010. It was her grandmother's tomb. She didn't recall her tomb being so close to the entrance, but it had been a while since she visited with her mom. As she walked closer the moonlight shined on the tomb as it were a spotlight. Jadis immediately fell to her knees. As she did the strangest thing happened. The winds picked up, the thunder rolled, and a coo...

To Tell or Not to Tell

Image
The sun blazed as the humid air made it hard for me to breathe. The beaded sweat fell relentlessly from my brow. I could feel my armpits moisture dripping slowly. Only one more block to go! I picked up the pace and encouraged myself with a quick thought of cool succulent watermelon slices. I left them in the cooler at the house before I took my evening run. Just as I was making my way to my door a car pulled into the cul-de-sac. I was not expecting anyone. The stranger approached me with an envelope in hand. “Mrs. Wilson?” he asked, timidly? ‘Yes, and you are?” Before I could finish inquiring about the nature of this contact he muttered, “You’ve been served.” And handed me the envelope.             As he left I began to open the envelope. It was a summons to appear at court, my ex had gotten himself in some legal trouble. I don’t know how my presence will help with his case, but it was clear I had to ...

Village Passion

New Month New Series of Short Stories.... This Month My Goal is to write 500 Word Short stories....Enjoy!! The cool midst of the torrential rains was still settling when Hector decided to go for an evening stroll. Finally the rain had stopped, but the water it left behind was far from receding. Hector could no longer watch the mudslides continue to flow through his village. Brown, gooey sludge was not as becoming as the green hillside he had grown accustomed to seeing. He wondered if there was a way to escape this dreariness. Finally he made it to a path that was frequently traveled. Each step he took, his feet gained weight from the thickened mud in the valley. "Hector!" He heard a faint voice call his name. He turned and looked up the hill and there she stood the village mystic. She beckoned for Hector to come near. Hector acknowledged her then began to make his way toward her. His heart pounded swiftly and he started perspiring profusely as his stomach started to turn...

Ocean Surprise

Mermaids       The sea roared, and the waves rolled. Penelope bobbed and weaved with the currents as she made her way to a nearby Fisherman’s boat. Finally! She was tired and just wanted to rest. The horn blew, and the ship would be sailing shortly. The sun was setting, and yet she was hopeful that she would be back home soon. She laid down and began to reflect on how she had gotten to this point.              Penelope always wanted to sail the ocean but settled for a 5-day cruise instead. None of her friends were able to take this trip with her due to their schedules, but this would never stop Penelope.  She didn’t mind having fun alone, besides she was often a loner. Late one night, after a pitstop, Penelope decided to get a view of the ocean from the 2nd floor. As she leaned forward on the rail, the boat jolted suddenly. She lost her balance and fell overboard. As soon as she hit the water her body began to convu...
