The Road to Honduras  My parents had been trying to contact me for the longest. I don't know how I managed to miss several of their calls, but they finally made contact. My dad was quite hysterical when I answered the call. "Miko, where the hell have you been? Your Mother and I have been trying to call you for days. You could've sent a message." Of course, I felt my dad was exaggerating because Mother knew I made initial contact when I made it to Aruba and then again when I was on my way to Jamaica, but I guess it has been a while since then. "Ok, Dad, I apologize I'll do better to stay in touch. What's all the fuss about anyway?" "Your great Uncle Seymour passed away a week or so ago. It was unexpected, and of course, you know you're his only great-niece." What?! Uncle Seymour? Oh, no! I had just thought about him before I began my venture. He always encouraged me to be true to thyself and live my most authentic life. My hea...

Strange Love - Primal Encounter

Nostalgic vibes in the air remind me of my olden days of blissful freedom. The scent of cedar wood and lavender linger in the foyer. The daylight peeks through the curtains as I hear the loud noise of kids playing outside. I walked to the couch and lay reluctantly. Another day to be grateful for and yet my heart longs for the love it once received.  I can no longer deny the pain I feel inside. I think I better just lay here and take it easy. Heartbreak is never easy, and getting over a love gone sour is even worse. I can't even say I used to love her because I still do. It all began three years ago when I decided to be free and open my heart to an unprecedented love. I had just finished a tour in Paris and was headed back to the states.  My crew booked me a first class trip back, but my seating arrangement wasn't near any of them. I didn't mind because it was first class! I boarded the plane and waited for my departure. I could've never predicted what was about to t...

To Tell or Not to Tell

The sun blazed as the humid air made it hard for me to breathe. The beaded sweat fell relentlessly from my brow. I could feel my armpits moisture dripping slowly. Only one more block to go! I picked up the pace and encouraged myself with a quick thought of cool succulent watermelon slices. I left them in the cooler at the house before I took my evening run. Just as I was making my way to my door a car pulled into the cul-de-sac. I was not expecting anyone. The stranger approached me with an envelope in hand. “Mrs. Wilson?” he asked, timidly? ‘Yes, and you are?” Before I could finish inquiring about the nature of this contact he muttered, “You’ve been served.” And handed me the envelope.             As he left I began to open the envelope. It was a summons to appear at court, my ex had gotten himself in some legal trouble. I don’t know how my presence will help with his case, but it was clear I had to ...

Lovers Quarrel

Detective Moore on the Scene             The dreariness of the city was starting to get to everyone it seemed. She had just gotten a call to report to a homicide crime scene, when she was on her way to the bistro, downtown for a late evening coffee and danish, but that would have to wait. The blue and red lights flashed relentlessly as Detective Moore pulled onto the scene. 233 Cherrylane Avenue. The light misty rain trickled steadily. 'Evening Detective Moore, Seattle's finest!' A scraggly voice came from a rookie, Jenkins. He greeted Detective Moore as soon as she stepped onto the scene. She responded reluctantly, "Jenkins, What do we have here?" Before Jenkins could get a word in edgewise, his partner Spinelli was already spilling the tea. "Well, it seems as though a love quarrel went bad, but I'll let you be the judge of that. Two bodies, male and female, no sign of forced entry". " Spinelli's voice grew faint as Detective Moore wal...
