Casualties of War
Detective Moore
It's not often I get baffled when working on a case. Yet this one is dragging, and the pieces are not of the standard caliber. We're still working on getting an ID for the female victim. It seems as though she's not a U.S. Citizen. So the foreign database search has already been initiated. The Homeland Security U.S. Embassy should have her information in no time. Meanwhile, the identified Raphael Durand's wife is being brought in for questioning. It seems as though they had been going through a breakup, which, in my eyes, implies motive.
Her ragged and torn skirt did not imply that she was impoverished. Perhaps she was in a rush while getting dressed. As she sat in the interrogation room, she did not look a bit disturbed. No tears fell from her eyes, and no compassion seemed to be in her heart. Legs crossed, and lips primped and pursed, her fire-red lipstick brought attention to her dark chocolate brown skin. I managed to get a glimpse of her blouse and noticed the print on the front it read: 'Nipsey's Bar and Lounge.' It's a local lounge that all the hotties in the city frequent. I wondered if she worked there or just happened upon the shirt. I asked Spinelli to question her about it. She told him her sister had just started working there and she had given her a couple of promo shirts. As the hours passed, we had exhausted our time with Mrs. Kimi Durand, and there was nothing more for us to do, but seek further evidence. Her alibis for the day in question panned out, and quite frankly, I'm not surprised. Although Kimi passed the suspect probe, I still believe she is hiding something.

Kimi
The cops were digging deep, and I didn't know how long my cover would hold. I tried calling my sister Gidget over and over again. It's weird because she usually would have called by now. Its been a couple of weeks or so since I last heard from her. As I began to feel a sense of urgency, I knew I had to talk to Priestess Algeria to see if there was anything else she had to reveal about the evolution of Raphael's death. As I approached her nook, I saw a look within her eyes of sadness and grief. "Greetings, Priestess Algeria. What's the latest with our spell plans?." She turned to me and asked me to sit. As I did, I knew something terrible was going to follow.
"I don't know how this got past us, Kimi. It seems as though there has been a tragedy within our plan of spells. You asked for the life and blood of the last woman your husband slept with as he took his final quest of infidelity...." I looked at her with a puzzled glare and responded, " well yeah and?" She just shook her head. "Well, that was before we knew who all he was sleeping with, and we assumed that it would never be someone you knew." What?!! What was she talking about, someone I knew? She was scaring me now, Algeria spill it already. "Kimi, it's your sister! She was sleeping with Raphael. I mean, you didn't know. Well, she's the female that the cops found with him, but I don't think they have identified her body yet."
I felt the tears fall from my eyes as I screamed with disbelief, anger, and sadness all at once. How could Gidget do this to me? How could they do this to me? Why? She wasn't supposed to be a casualty in all this. How am I going to explain this to my parents? I asked Algeria if she was sure, she said yes. The spell reveals the names of the dead within a specific time frame. She had known for a few days but was reluctant to tell me as I drove home, my heartfelt cold and numb. I could not believe that my sister and Raphael were having sex behind my back. I never had to step foot in the house for the massacre to happen. Algeria created a spell that would cause division and confusion with the last woman he slept with other than me. She knew the day he would arrive with a lover, so she coated the dog with a dusted powder. It would make him very aggressive to the point of attacking in death — the precise reason he was slain. I'm sure Raphael tried not to hurt Kenji, but he had no choice.
All I could do was think about the happiness and pain this disaster had already begun to cause. There is no way I am giving in now. Unfortunately, Gidget had just become a casualty of war. All is fair in love and war. She should have never crossed me. They both deserve exactly what they got. Why though? Nothing will ever be the same for my family nor me. Once the cops figure out that the body of the female is my sister, I'm sure they will question me again. No worries though, I'm ready! This mission is airtight now, and there is nothing no one can do about it.
