Bruja

Jadis had often thought of herself as a quirky kid. She had no idea of her powers and destiny, until one autumn day not long ago. It was all hollow’s eve when she decided to take a walk near an old cemetery. Her friends would often dare each other to do it. Jadis was never afraid to, she just wanted the moment to be sacred. Eventually, she decided to go alone. The howling of wolves could be heard off in the distance, but that didn't deter her. She skipped along the brick trail at the entrance of Mundy Mill's Cemetery. She stopped at a tombstone where a black cat laid. The tombstone read: Gwydion Murray 1923-2010. It was her grandmother's tomb.

She didn't recall her tomb being so close to the entrance, but it had been a while since she visited with her mom. As she walked closer the moonlight shined on the tomb as it were a spotlight. Jadis immediately fell to her knees. As she did the strangest thing happened. The winds picked up, the thunder rolled, and a cool rain midst began to fall. Chill bumps arose all over Jadis. She lifted her head and noticed the cat staring at her.

"Welcome, my darling. How are you?" Jadis, looked startled but remained calm. She was not afraid of the cat for she knew it was an oracle. "Greetings, and who do I owe the pleasure of this visit?"

“It is I, Gwydion! I have come to guide you in your gifts.” The cat replied boldly. She jumped from the tomb and began to circle Jadis. As Jadis looked down she noticed the cat had a collar with a familiar triquetra charm. She also wore one on a necklace her mother had given her for her thirteenth birthday.  “Grandma?” Jadis asked bewilderedly.

Before Gwydion replied a huge gray cloud surrounded her and Jadis. It hovered and produced a great whirlwind.  Gwydion stretched then stood right before Jadis. “Yes granddaughter it is time for us to make our first potion!” She was so excited. Jadis didn’t know whether to run or stay put. As she turned to follow the lead of the witch that stood before her, she smiled. Finally, she was going to work her magic. Her mother had forbidden her from any spells or practices until she felt she was ready! Well today would be the day, nonetheless on all hollow’s eve.

Jadis realized she was no longer in her own reality but one that slated a new dimension and seemed quite cartoonish. How could this be? Would she ever return to her home town and the cemetery where she found her grandma? The colors became more intense; reds, yellows, blues, oranges. Suddenly she faded away.
